You may have heard us talking about Helix – our new data analytics platform for Shipnet Users launched at Posidonia.
We are moving forward to roll this out to all our current users, but I wanted to talk about the motivations for developing this tool, and what we hope we will be able to build on top of this data infrastructure.
One of the things we have seen time and time again in maritime is frustration that getting access to easy-to-understand data on your own fleet is difficult. Complex data structures, or worse, no access at all except through provided applications makes the quick investigation and exploration of data all but impossible without engaging with your software provider to extract, transform or provide an analytics solution for you – dramatically raising the cost.
With Helix, we do the leg work for you. We extract all of your raw data from the Shipnet Application suite, we transform and restructure the tables to useful, module specific formats and we provision the data for you to connect your own BI Tools and applications to in the cloud.
The best part? This is all included as standard in the Shipnet ONE Package.
As I mentioned above, discovery and investigation are key parts of driving optimisations and efficiencies within your business. Helix puts your data in your hands – allow the experts to do that investigation and discovery. We at Shipnet will be here to help you on this journey – but the real experts on your data are your users. Helix is all about empowering them to be able to make the improvements you need to improve and grow your business.
Our development of Helix will come in two parts; we will build out a web portal for analytics that will become your single source of truth for fleet status and analysis on the move. We are excited to be leveraging Big Data analytics and web technologies to make this easy and performant. This will also be a way for us to deliver Dashboards, Charts and Reporting for customers that do not wish to undertake this work themselves.
Secondly, we are in the process of partnering with Data Science solution providers – where we hope to leverage Machine Learning methods and techniques to learn from all the anonymised data with our customers and deliver a range of insights and benchmarks that can be fed back into SN1 to help your users work with greater information and context.
The Productization of Machine Learning and AI proceeds at breakneck speed – it is more important than ever that ready with their operational data hosted on suitable platforms, like Helix, so that as technology evolves you can move at the same pace.
